We’ve invested millions to be ready for the harshest winter.

In 2020, news across America was chocked full of news of a weather event in Texas – a big freeze that many didn’t anticipate had struck the power grid. Pipes burst, power was down and the struggle continued for weeks.

That is, the struggle continued for those that were not prepared. At Target Hospitality, harsh environments and Mother Nature’s awesome strength is nothing new. When we build, operate, and maintain remote workforce housing communities, you can almost think of them like aircraft carriers – self-contained and able to run for weeks on our systems without a hiccup. 60,000 gallons of on-site, fresh water, for example.

Stores of food, water storage, and treatment, tremendous generators humming. Harsh winters and brutal summers are just a part of the SOPs (standard operating procedures). You count on us to provide safe, comfortable accommodations and we take care of the facilities and logistics to make sure that happens without interruption.

Industrial generators keep the lights on 24/7 even with service interruptions related to weather events or natural disasters.

Installed 45 new generators to date

New Generators

  • All new generators have Automatic Transfer Switches
  • Two additional generators to be installed before the end of December
  • 13 new generators proposed for CapEx in 2022
  • All new generators have remote monitoring systems to report potential issues before the generator is needed

Existing Generators

  • All existing generators were professionally inspected and any required repairs are scheduled to be completed
  • All 25 existing generators to receive remote monitoring systems to report potential issues before the generator is needed

Sanitary Systems

  • Replaced above ground sanitary lines to improve flow and help reduce the chances of the lines freezing
  • Installed expansion fittings to reduce pipe movement to reduce water accumulation areas where water could freeze

Water Systems

  • Wrapped or re-wrapped all water lines under buildings with pipe insulation
  • Installed heat trace and insulation on water lines exposed to the elements
  • Upgraded several pump systems to PLC controlled pumps to reduce downtime
  • Inspected all pump houses to ensure proper heating and insulation is in place and functioning
  • Inspected all water storage tanks to ensure they can be filled during freezing temperatures
  • Inspected and replaced as needed all recirculating pumps to ensure individual guest hot water is delivered quickly and efficiently

Municipal services and infrastructure are something we gladly take advantage of the day-to-day. But when push comes to shove, we make sure our guests aren’t left hanging when the gales of November come early (hat tip to Gordon Lightfoot). And with on-site comms networks and individually controlled thermostats, our guests are comfortable even when the news reports winter storms are slowing folks down.

Count on us to do things the right way. The Target Way.
